A draft survey on a ship is a method used to measure the weight of cargo being loaded or unloaded from the vessel. It is based on the principle that a ship's draft (the vertical distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull) changes depending on the amount of cargo it carries. By comparing the ship’s draft before and after loading or unloading cargo, the surveyor can calculate the weight of the cargo.
